Northern Labrador Polar Bear Cruise

The buildings of the original Moravian mission still stand today, and are in reasonably good condition considering the passage of time. During the 1990s, the large wooden church was used by caribou that sought shelter from the heat and flies in the cool interior. The site is currently undergoing repairs and the caribou are keeping a wary distance. The Moravian structures at Hebron and Hopedale to the south represent two of the most historically significant mission-built structures left standing in the province, and they are the oldest in North America.
